Taste of the Arts Presents The Art of Painted Furniture Finishes 101

Discover how paint and decorative finishing techniques can give furniture and home accessories an entirely new life.

Join local artist Chris Elliott-Davis for a hands-on introduction to the art of painted furniture finishes. Perfect for DIY enthusiasts, furniture flippers, upcyclers, and anyone who loves transforming old or ordinary pieces, this workshop will explore techniques for creating charming, vintage and Old World-inspired finishes.

Chris will demonstrate each technique before participants create their own hands-on sample boards featuring a variety of decorative finishes and techniques:

  • Aged barn wood
  • Aged paint using a wax-resist technique
  • Paint stain on raw wood with painted detail
  • Wood graining
  • Decorative stamping
  • Decorative transfers
  • Aging techniques
  • Antique Stenciling

Along the way, participants will learn how to use these techniques to create the character, depth, texture, and timeworn appearance that make painted furniture and decorative pieces truly unique. These skills can be used on furniture, home accessories, signs, and more.

Take your sample boards home as inspiration and reference for future projects—whether you’re refreshing a treasured piece of furniture, transforming a thrift-store find, creating something for your home, or making a one-of-a-kind gift.

No previous experience is necessary, and all materials and supplies are provided.

Heritage & Homestead workshops celebrate traditional skills, handmade crafts, and practical knowledge worth carrying forward.

Class fees are non-refundable unless we are able to fill the space from our waiting list.
