Taste of the Arts presents a Beginner Drawing Class

Have you always wished you could draw? This three-hour Taste of the Arts workshop is designed to give beginners the foundational skills—and confidence—to get started.

Instructor Lane Dunyak will introduce students to drawing from life through a quick-draw exercise and the “boxing in” technique, a method for breaking down objects into manageable shapes and proportions. Students will then explore how shading values and different drawing pencils can transform a flat sketch into a drawing with depth and three-dimensional realism.
And you’ll be learning from an artist with decades of experience.

Lane holds a B.A. in Studio Art from Rhodes College, where she received the Apollonian Art Award as the top senior art student, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis. She later studied under artist Chris DiDomizio in Atlanta, learning drawing and Old Master painting techniques. Lane spent more than 20 years as a professional portrait painter and art instructor and now works primarily in watercolor, painting from nature.

All materials are provided. Students will also take home three drawing pencils, an eraser, and their drawings so they can continue practicing and finishing their work at home.

No previous drawing experience is needed—just come ready to learn!

Space is limited to 10 participants, so early registration is encouraged.
