Backwoods Beat Songwriting Workshop with Darrell Scott

Friday • June 26, 2020 • 2 – 5pm

Workshop will be held at the:

Alleghany JAM House at 360 N. Main Street, Sparta, NC 28675

This workshop is a session of deep creative work, community building, and focus on the creative process via: songs. By presenting Darrell’s own songs in class, and discussing how they came about, and by students presenting their songs or songs-in-progress in class, students will work on the nuts and bolts of the songwriting process as well as discussing the spiritual concepts that fire the creativity behind the songs. The focus will be on digging down deep into ourselves, our own stories and observations, to come up with universal experiences, then, how to tell these truths in song. (When we get more revealing, vulnerable, open in our song, the more available the song is to reach another.) In addition to your own growth and development as a writer, you will get to hear “first-hand” from Darrell how his songs came about and the inspiration behind them. In the daily workshop setting you will be able to share your songs (or songs-in-progress) in a supportive and collaborative community.

The Alleghany JAM house is a perfect setting for this workshop . The main “performance hall” is a large room with plenty of space, tables, and chairs for a group setting.
